Spinning, Squatting and Considering Swimming

So my 22nd birthday has passed, and i’m plunging into pre-season training.

In terms of planning my coming year I’ve began noting down my goals and expectations for the coming year:

1. DISCIPLINED OFF-SEASON…

My plan is to build up a strong cardio base, whilst improving the power and strength. 99.9% of us indulge over the festive periods and i’m no different, but I plan on staying focused and keeping off winter pounds. I hope this limits the January blues and propels me energetically into the new season.

As a student, i’m normally pretty short on beans (money). Over the last few years I’ve arrived at tri season and have been limited in what I can afford to do. So, each week i’m setting aside a little bit of money in a jar so I can race to my heart and leg’s content.

2. PRE-SEASON…

On my Christmas list are a few tri goodies, namely the Garmin Forerunner 310xt. This should keep me occupied over the cold winter months.

I hope to raise my tempo and intensity to propel me into the new season. At this stage, i’ll start doing brick session, combining disciplines and also try and dip my toe into some open water. (In Wales that is one daunting thought.. one that my nipples are NOT looking forward to).

3. TRI SEASON…

At this point I want to be chomping at the bit whilst plotting many UK triathlons onto my map and calender.

I plan on providing you with a first person insight into race prep, competing and recovery.

My main objective for the season is to complete an Olympic distance triathlon, although if i’m in extra good shape I will be swayed to compete in a Half Ironman (70.3).

4. POST SEASON…

As i’m a keen cyclist, I’m going to take the opportunity to do some touring and see some of the beautiful country that I live in from my saddle. Hopefully, I’ll be joined by my beautiful girlfriend. This will be a chance to thank her for her patience and a chance to share our hobby.

Last Day of 21

So here we go…

For those who don’t know me, which is everybody, my name is Jordan Williams. A triathlon enthusiast, a student and a dedicated boyfriend and son.

I’m a rather inexperienced middle of the pack triathlete, with many sprint tri’s and local triathlons under my belt. The past 2 seasons have been disjointed to say the least. Injury, travelling and studies the culprits.

Today is the last day of my life where I’ll be 21.

Yes it’s sad. Getting older. (I can assume a large of number of over 30′s are currently tutting, or have clicked off the blog) But this has given me the perfect opportunity to share a year in my life.

With my injuries under control and a motivation to give it a real shot.. I have decided to blog…

“A Year In The Life of an Average Triathlete”

From the 3rd of November 2012 to the 3rd November 2013 I will provide you with an insight into my life as a part time tri guy.

So what to expect…

As I am a cash strapped student, I’ll be providing you with an insight into:

Training on a budget. Racing on a budget. Nutrition. Equipment. My daily life.

I will picture my progress in the hope of inspiring someone to follow me in chasing my goals. Living life.
